San Pablo City breaks Guinness World Records with coconut planting drive

San Pablo City, Laguna, made history on August 29, 2025, by setting a new world record for the largest simultaneous coconut seedling planting event across multiple sites.
In just 15 minutes, more than 11,000 coconut seedlings were planted in 12 barangays, with thousands of volunteers, including students, civic groups, and city staff, working together to achieve the milestone.
At the main site, an 8-hectare lot served as the hub of activity under the leadership of Mayor Loreto “Najie” Amante Gapangada. The seedlings were provided by the City Agriculturist’s Office in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority.
Planting coconuts for the future

While the achievement has earned San Pablo City international recognition, the planting drive is just the beginning of a three-year coconut reforestation program.
The initiative aims to restore San Pablo’s reputation as a leading coconut producer in the Philippines and to address environmental concerns, particularly as portions of land are being converted for industrial use.
Coconut community at the core

The event highlighted the power of community spirit. From students to civic organizations, residents came together with a shared purpose: to revive the local coconut industry and secure its future.
Mayor Gapangada underscored that the task of revitalizing coconut production belongs to everyone and called for continued collaboration in the years ahead.
Recognition on the world stage

To validate the record, Guinness adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar personally visited each planting site and confirmed the achievement. His presence added transparency and credibility to the event, sealing San Pablo City’s place in the Guinness World Records.
Conclusion: Building a resilient coconut industry

With this historic accomplishment, San Pablo City has not only celebrated its heritage but also laid down the roots for a sustainable and thriving coconut industry. The coconut seedlings they planted symbolize more than just trees; they represent a commitment to growth, resilience, and community-driven progress.
As San Pablo City takes bold steps toward reforestation and industry revival, its story reminds us that when a community comes together, even the tallest goals can take root.
